Shown: Ladoga canal (the construction was begun in 1717 at the time of Peter I and finished in 1731), Schlisselburg Fortress, settlements, churches, forests. The roads are rendered in several ways, depending on importance: the dotted lines marked with brown colour mean more importance, the roads of state significance (Pershpectivnaya, Bolshaya Pershpectivnaya) are lined with trees. The borders of Novgorod Province, Ingermanland and Karelia are shown with colour and dotted lines. The canal’s profile (AB line) on the unfolded roll. The title cartouche renders the canal’s construction and represents a frame of geodetic tools, spades etc. A goddess (Athena?) with military attributes points at peaceful attributes.
Annotation: Dated on a basis of the time of the canal’s construction (1717-31), of Grimmel’s arrival to Russia (1741), of Bergholz’s depature (1746). Under the cartouche is the signature “Grimmel del.”. One of the series of maps of Neva, Ladoga and Gulf of Finland territories with vignettes engraved by J. Grimmel.
