Detailed map of the canal or new ditch from Schlisselburg to Ladoga drawn by Abraham Maas in St-Petersburg in 1726.

Graphic scale in Russian versts and Dutch miles. North-oriented.
Decoration: The title and graphic scale are in refined cartouches in shape of wreaths and leaves, in the Ladoga Lake’s area of water is a decorative compass card.
Territory: A part of south shore of Ladoga, from the Neva’s head up to the mouth of Volkhov River.
Shown: Schlisselburg (Sleutelburg) Fortress, settlements of Staraya Ladoga and Novaya Ladoga, populated areas along the shore. Ladoga canal from Schlisselburg to New Ladoga is rendered conventionally enough. By the Volkhov River’s mouth and Neva’s head are sand-bars. Some small explanatory data containing geographical information about the canal’s construction. The road connecting Schlisselburg and New Ladoga has the inscription: “Land or summer road from Schlisselburg to Ladoga”. Along Ladoga canal connecting Schlisselburg and New Ladoga as well there are several inscriptions, among them (from Beloye Lake south) is ”As far as here the canal from Ladoga to Schlisselburg [was digged up to] 1725 and partially digged farther”. On the left bank of Neva, by the mouth, is “flows from Ladoga Lake through St-Petersburg to Gulf of Finland”. Verdure is shown perspectively.
Annotation: The map contains data about course of the canal’s construction in 1726 (the period of active work by the leadership of B.-Ch. Minich). Worked out by A. Maas, a Dutchman in Russian service.
