Scale [1:16 180]. The scale in Russian sazhens (“Ryska Famnar”). South-south-west-oriented.
Decoration: The title in cartouche, the explication on unfolded roll.
Territory: The east end of Retusaari (Kotlin) Island.
Shown: Fortifications and civil buildings in the east part of Retusaari I. The signs in Roman letters are decoded in the explication: Kronstadt (A), Kronslot (B), Citadel (C), Naval port (D), New harbour (E), Merchant harbour (F), the way to Petersburg between Kronstadt and Oranienbaum (G), the submerged old way between Kronstadt and Finnish shore (H), a dock (J), canals to dock (K), the remained part of Beta I. (L).
Annotation: The plan can be dated 1771. On the plan is one of the unrealized project outlines of the earthen fortification of 1750s. In 1750 the military fortification engineers von Vitvort, Herbel, Dedenev, Muratov, Nemtsov, Demarin, Ettinger submitted projects of wooden fortifications around the town of Kronstadt. Projects by Engineer-Colonel Ludwig appeared in 1752, by Engineer-Colonel de Bosket in 1755. At the same time on 30 of July 1752 the canal was solemnly unveiled in Elizabeth’s presence. By the Senate’s order “the Kronstadt canal was named Peter the First the Great”.
