The drawing of a facade of Life Guards Cavalry regiment building
after the reconstruction into a regiment church.
Annotation:
The Cavalry Guards settlement along Pervaya Beregovaya Street
in Liteiny District existed from 1734. In the centre of the settlement
was the Church of “Annunciation, which is in the front rooms
of Cavalry Life Guards”. This church, rendered on the drawing,
was reconstructed from Admiral A. Kikin’s brick palace,
confiscated in 1717, after A. Kikin fell into disgrace. From 1717
the building housed the Library and Chamber of curiosities (Kunstkamera).
After they were moved to a new building on the Basil Island here
a regiment “magazine” (storehouse) of the Cavalry
Guards was housed. From 1741 the building was considerably reconstructed
into the regiment church and consecrated. The building has kept
the features of Petrine architecture to our time (it’s located
in Shpalernaya Street). On the drawing the building reconstructed
for the church with Orthodox cross on a tower is shown.
