the fortress with wooden drawbridges. The eastern ravelin is connected
with Gorodskoy Island with a wooden bridge by the Troitskaya (Trinity)
Square. Inside the fortress are structures, fortifications and
a canal, brick Peter and Paul Cathedral (built in 1732 by D. Trezzini’s
project). North from the fortress is the crownwork with 3 bastions,
2 ravelins, 2 lunets and inner moat.
Annotation:
The project drawing was approved by Anna Ioanovna on 7 of November
1732. Signed by B.-Ch. Minich. The designed crownwork’s
outlines are unique. They were appearing (beginning from this
draft) on many project drafts of the city until early XIX c. but
were never realized. Beginning from the end of 1730s the crownwork
was reconstructed by another (by B.-Ch. Minich) project with different
outlines of bastions, ravelins and lunets. The manuscript signs
read: 1) to build according to this drawing Anna -- (to the left,
autograph), 2) November 7, 1732 (at the left edge of the drawing),
3) Field-Marshal-General Count Cristophor von Minnich (at the
right foot, signature).
