Decoration:
The title is in the cartouche in shape of frame with ornament:
double-headed eagle to the right, monograms of Peter I and Anna
Ioannovna to the left.
Shown:
Streets, constructed blocks of buildings (stone buildings are
red, wooden are yellow), gardens, parks, lanes. Dotted lines show
places devastated after fires of 1736-1737. In the city’s
outskirts state and local roads, forests, cuttings, ploughed fields
are marked. The Latin numerals show city islets and administrative
parts, Arabic numerals show buildings (98 signs).
Annotation:
A unique coloured copy of the plan from edition “Chambers
of Saint-Petersburg Imperial Academy of Sciences Library and Kunstkamera”
(SPb., 1741). The plan, made on the basis of topographical surveys
which were carried out in the Academy of Sciences from 1727 by
G.-B. Kraft et al. In 1737 the surveys of the city territory were
finished by the group under the leadership of von Sicheim. Representatives
of the Academy of Sciences, General Police Office and military
cartographers took part in the mapping. The present plan (small-scale),
engraved in the Academy of Sciences and the manuscript plan (large-scale),
which is known as “Sicheim’s plan” are two versions
of one plan.
