Annotation:
The leaf is from the unique map album, including maps of Kurland,
Lifland, Estland, Ingermanland and Vyborg Län. Of special
interest are the Pogosts of Nöteborg Län on the territory
of which now St-Petersburg is located: Kieltis Pogost, Spassky
Pogost, Ingris Pogost, Duders Pogost. This administrative division,
location of settlements, marking of roads of Swedish territory
of Ingermanland show the unique centuries-old (XIV-XVII c.) stability
of the development of the lands. All these pogosts are known from
XV-XVI c., when the territories were a part of Novgorodian Republic,
from 1478 a part of Moscow State. After the territories of the
area of Neva became a part of Sweden (from 1580) this traditional
administrative division remained. From 1640-1650s the Slavic,
Vod, Izhora and Karela place-names were replaced by the Finnish
ones because tens of thousands of Finns were resettled here by
the Swedish Government.
